ARTIST BIO

Formed in the city of Tangier in 2012, the band “Tangier” consists of lead singer Zayd Azeriah, guitarist Taib Mekouar, bassist Simo Mekouar, and drummer Morad Cherigui. In a short period of time, the group succeeded in building a sound reputation locally for producing music of various genres, including pop, rock, and funk, among others.

The group members stumbled upon each other while performing individually at a Live Room event in a Tangier restaurant in 2012. A few exchanges later and the newly-formed band were well on their way thanks to a shared vision and a passionate urge to generate music for all walks of life. The partnership was nourished and nurtured in the studio of the Mekouar brothers.

In late 2012, lead singer, Zayd, left for the United States and devoted himself entirely to music with the goal of exploring newer horizons. The group parted ways amicably as Zayd ventured with a solo career.
2013 would be the year the 4 members got together again where it all started in the Mekouar studio. Thanks to a more efficient approach, the group was solicited by Dubai-based label Groove Society. In collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment Middle East, the label commercialized Tangier’s first hit ‘Love For Free’ in April 2015. The band is currently finalizing a second hit with the same label, entitled ‘Fire’.
